Sunday Shopping

Yesterday was the last Sunday antique market at the local fairgrounds for 2014.  My first purchase of the morning brought sunshine to my day.  This late 19th century top has a couple double-pink fabric tears, but its been reproduced and repair shouldn't be a problem.  I think this top was meant to find me.  The dealer had the top for only one day - fate!

 

I found this beautiful pitcher.  I love serving iced-tea out of old pitchers

because the tea highlights the glass detail.  Be sure to let the brewed tea come to room temperature before pouring into the pitcher - learned the hard way on that one.   
These old linens will look great in the summer kitchen.  The top one is a towel and the bottom one looks like a table runner ($2 each and in perfect condition).
 

 I found a mulberry transferware plate to add to my collection. Fall is the perfect season to display mulberry dishes.

I also found a glass frog for flower arranging for $.50 and old perforated quilting stencils for $1.  A crisp autumn morning for a treasure hunt!  And the BEARS WON!!!   



Progress

My mom loved this machine.  She said it would sew lace or leather - same beautiful stitch.  I learned to sew on this machine.  It's sewed dining room curtains; school clothes; my prom dress; my sister's wedding dress; and now, my Lexie's snuggle quilt.  The top is together!

It turned out just as I'd pictured.  I'm very pleased.  Here's a peak at the backing.  I have a square piece of French General Toile from the Lumiere de Noel line (picked up at Hancock's during quilt show frenzy).  I'm framing the square with an oldie from stash.  I've ironed the toile, but the creases keep coming back.

I'm planning on adding the back label prior to long-arm quilting.  Any comments on pro's/con's to this approach?

What I've Been Up To

Here is the finished porch quilt top. I am pretty happy with it. Nearly all of the fabric was in the stash, but for the sashing. There was only one yard, and, of course, it was my favorite of all that I auditioned. Thought that I would take a chance online, and Main Street Quilts had just under two yards left, so you know I snagged it all! The top evolved from leftover 9 patchs, blue and white brick leftovers from Bonnie's Texas Braid, and the desire to make something for the porch. Blue with gray is very New England summer to me, and I like the combination.Detail shot. So much fun to just start sewing, and allow the quilt to make itself.

These blocks are the leaders and enders for my other leader and ender 4 patchs! The centers were a charm pack giveaway from the generous Kathie from www.inspiredbyantiquequilts.blogspot.com . The corner triangles are extras from my Christmas Cracker quilt. The strips are, again, from the Texas Braid. These blocks may just be a backing for an unknown quilt in my future. It will be curious to see how many quilts that never would have been can be sewn from all of my overcutting.

The last few days in the sewing room have been for cutting, so I thought that I would share one of my antique quilt tops. This one just has some yummy fabrics, so there are lots of pics.
