Timeout

The Puss-In-The-Corner blocks are in timeout until I decide how to proceed.  My screensaver has been cycling thru quilt pics and this pinwheel on-point has been calling to me.  Check out the quilt at Liberty Star, Renee Plains' blog.

Each block is constructed from 16 half square triangle units.  I'm using the hst quick piecing method - each square set produces 8 identical hst!  My hst's finish at 1 3/4".  My usual method would be to cut one light/one dark square at 2 3/4" (add 1" to finished size) to produce two hst's.  With this quick method you cut one light/one dark square at double that measurement - 5 1/2".  Since I need 16 hst, I cut 2 light and 2 dark squares at 5 1/2".  Draw lines point-to-point (one line NW to SE and one line NE to SW).  Sew 1/4" on each side of both lines.

Cut the square in half horizontally and vertically (2 3/4" cutting line for this example).  Cut each smaller square along drawn line to yield 8 hst.  Trim each unit to 2 1/4" for finished 1 3/4" unit.

I've been contemplating my quilt resolutions for the New Year.  I want to commit to completing a top from my 'Bucket List' next year.  I have less than a week to make my pick!

Sunday night update

Today's progress.  These blocks remind me of a line from You've Got Mail - "Don't you think that daisies are the friendliest flower?"

Love those pinwheel blocks. Thanks for showing your construction method. I, too, am thinking about tops I want to complete next year. Don't know that I will be able to choose before the new year!

wow, love that block...looks like each block is quite time consuming!!
i just went to Common Threads at the FWMoA. small but mighty display of quilts...i took my kids and they were not loving it...the docents followed us like a hawk, and i must say, made me feel very unwelcome...lovely quilts though!
I read My Antonia a few years ago... are you enjoying it?

That is going to be a gorgeous quilt. I use the hst ruler by ...oh...what's that gal's name that throws her scraps over her shoulder?.... It makes 8 hst at once. I love that method and they come out so perfect. Quilt in a Day...hst ruler.

The pinwheel blocks look fabulous with the green fabric for an alternate. I am glad that one of us is getting some sewing done!
That daisy line is my favorite from that movie!

Vicki, the blocks look great! And I love them on the green. I keep saying I'm going to finish some UFO's, too, but them something else catches my eye. I need to resolve to stay more focused. :)

Looking good! I like the blocks on the green, and thanks for sharing your block, now I need to try one! I am machine quilting a little quilt for grandson, Jack. Decided to try to finish one more quilt for the New Year...maybe it will help me pull out more WIPS and finish!

Thanks for the instructions for making HST. I have hundreds to make and need a quicker method than what I usually do. Good thing I procrastinated making mine until you posted this!

Vicki! I've got this quilt as my desktop background and have been contemplating fabric selection! Love that green background. I've been thinking of going light, like the inspiration, but time will tell! Hope you had a wonderful Christmas!

Love the green fabric for the setting squares with blocks on point. I'm working on the Bonnie Hunter mystery and need 600 HSTs. I'll give your method a try.
