Border Disputes, Part II
I'm continuing the subject of Jan's last post. I completed this Snowball & 9 Patch on New Year's Eve night (disturbing insight into my social life!). As soon as I laid the completed top on the floor to admire, I noticed something in one corner. Oops, one 9 patch 4's/5's transposed. It would be easy to fix since it's in the corner, but I kinda like it. I'm leaving the mistake in - major breakthru for me!
Thanks to Jan for sharing a 1/2 yd of the background fabric to complete the quilt. Fabric requirements increase when changing from straight set to 'on point'. Sauder's shopping with a friend is a 'good thing'!
Now to the border dispute. I have background strips to add a 3 1/2" max outer border. So the options are: 1) no border, 2) background border only, or 3) skinny inner border (maybe not the fabric pictured) and background border.

I love the background border and the fact that you are leaving the mistake in.
I really prefer it with no border.
Second choice would be to float it with the background 3 inch border. But, by NO MEANS would I add a colored strip !

What a lovely quilt, I'm drooling here. I like both options, and I guess it depends on whether or not you need to make it bigger, or just big enough.

Background border for me and then a darker binding. I love your "mistake" ..oh excuse me...your "design decision". It'll make for great conversation for years to come.
Your "mistake" is charming - visually, as well as conceptually. As far as the border is concerned, I would most definitely put one. It is not possible to get the feel of the totality of the quilt and its scale from just a small photo, but if I wanted it to "float" I would put a broad background border. If I wanted it "grounded" I'd put a narrow darkish border, followed by background fabric one.
A charming quilt, whichever way you decide to finish it.

What a wonderful quilt and I like the rogue nine patch too. I like option one and two but I'm leaning towards two if you need it a bit larger.
Gorgeous quilt you have there Vicki and great to have a friend to share your fabric with. Now I'm going to be really difficult - I like the background border - definitely, but perhaps a little narrower. So many choices!

I would put no border on it and use a dark binding. If I used a border, it would be dark, serving as a frame for the beautiful quilt. I sometimes leave mistakes in, too, but for this quilt, I would probably fix the corner block. Just mho.
Just MHO, but I like a little border. Because there is a lot of background in the quilt it needs a little something to say, "OK this is the end."

I like the floating version and maybe a dark binding.
I vote for border option #2. Love your humility block - it makes the quilt even more special.
