Border Resolutions

Here's my little doll quilt top of leftover triangles. I added borders, courthouse steps style, in fabric strips that just happended to have been lying on the cutting table. The strips were leftover from Lori's CC&C. The pink and brown finally has a border. As you can see, I went with a medium brown, and only that. I just wanted to contain the piecing, without adding any more pink. The binding will be in the same fabric. Now all I have to do is stash it away, with a note to myself what it's being saved for. I could cut the binding now, but by the time this is quilted, it could be quite thready. There are just way too many tops, and not enough finished at this time. The problem is that I can't hand quilt for long each day because my hands get numb. Does anyone else have this happen?
There was an antique block on ebay that appealed to me, so I quickly sewed my own version. Another "just because" block.

Do you hand quilt all your tops? I think the doll quilt looks wonderful but congrats on finishing the gorgeous pink and brown, it's wonderful.

The quilt is great. Great choice for border. I have problems with my hands especially with hexagons I find if I try and re-train how I hold things like not so tight not so many close stitches it is getting better. Cheers Sharron

The simple brown border on the quilt top works well.
I do get numbness sometimes when hand quilting. I do better if I don't do the hand quilting in the morning. I haven't done any hand quilting for a while, so I don't know what it will be like when I do.

The little doll quilt with "leftovers" is perfect!! That's how they would have done them in the olden days:)
The pink and brown quilt is gorgeous! Are you sure you don't want to bind it in dark brown?

Lori, I think you're right! A dark brown would look better. And, that way I can use this brown in other projects. Thanks!

LOVE your little ebay inspiration~!!~
your border choices are perfect and the little leftovers quilt is too sweet~!!~!

if my hands get sore or numb while quilting i usually notice that it's because i've been gripping on a bit too hard or my hands and arms are needing a new position to work in. i don't often sit for really looong stretches of time and quilt and i think that also helps.

I love your doll quilt. I was going to cruise by but didn't want to go without letting you know I was here and lingered... enjoying what lovely work you have to share here. A nice visit!

Your pink/brown top is beautiful. I cut and store my bindings when I finish a top and keep them in a zip bag pinned to the top. They won't fray and you'll have the right fabric when it comes time to bind. Gorgeous top!
