Three Fabric Quilt

I like scrappy quilts - lots of variety in fabric.  Making a quilt with just three fabrics doesn't fit my profile.  My current project is inspired by an old quilt I saw a couple years ago.  I worked out yardage requirements before I visited PA Amish country this fall.  Sauder's didn't disappoint!  I found two Judie Rothermel fabrics - the green Twelve Oakes yardage in a 5 yd cut for $1.99/yd and the yellow Butter Churn and Cheddar for $2.99/yd.  The red Turkish and Treasures was pulled from stash.  The block is #2026, New Irish Chain or On the Square, from Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns by Barbara Brackman.  I've changed the block construction for strip piecing, so progress is moving along!

I've had alot of 'sitting idle' lately.  I've used the time to design a new, scrappy top!  Haven't started sewing, but I've included the focus fabric to peak your interest - an 'oldie but goodie' from the Sarah Johnson Shelburne Museum Collection.

Hope you all enjoyed the Thanksgiving holiday!

Well, my interest is certainly piqued - I don't know about this one! I have the very same fabric that has been set aside for a project.
Irish chains have been on a few quilter's minds lately - mine included. I'm loving the way this is coming together!

That serpentine is one of my all time favourites! I bought metres of it in this colourway and the blue/red. Yum!

You got some good deals in Amish country. Love the quilt and yes, you did peak my interest in that fabric.

Fabric shopping at Sauder's is full of wonderful surprises. This top is looking good. And the serpentine print... a challenge. Look forward to seeing what you plan for it.

Wow!! A great quilt. I always use many more than 3 fabrics in a quilt too. Thank you for the inspiration.

Loooove the red fabric!!!!

Wow, that sure is eyecatching! Great fabrics. I also have the Sarah Johnson in both colors, but haven't found the right project yet. I can't wait to see what you'll do with it.

I've used bits and pieces of that Shelburne fabric in a half dozen quilts...only have about a quarter yard left. Feels like an old friend....

what a great double irish chain. Some quilts just call for 3 fabrics and these are great together-
Can't wait to see what you'll get up to with that great serpentine fabric.

Sometimes three is just enough.
Great quilt.
Watch for me to copy this idea soon.

I am a great fan of simple quilts like this. Gorgeous! They are such a great way to showcase a fabric you love. I'm waiting on an order of Turkey Reds for a Double Irish Chain.
I still have a little of the serpentine in both colourways.
