Standing in front of St. Paul's Cathedral in London, we noticed this interesting building down a narrow side street. Not getting enough walking with general site-seeing (facetious), we decided to investigate. What a surprise to turn the corner to the front of the building! This is now a youth hostel, but was originally St. Paul's choir boys' school.

Greetings from 16 Pall Mall SW1 London
No pictures with the post today. Jan and I took occupancy of our Pall Mall London rental flat this morning. Lucky no impact to flight schedules from Saturday morning Iceland volcano action - we've been worrying about that for a few weeks. Lucky we were ignorant of current events, because we would have stressed the whole day! Possibility of London air traffic impact on Tuesday. If we're stranded - darn, we'll have to stay longer and see more! We've been planning this two-week trip for at least two years (since we first learned of V&A quilt exhibit). Itinerary includes V&A exhibit this week (in case we want to revisit during second week) and trip to Bath on Fri/Sat to include The American Museum in Bath quilt exhibit. Back to London on Sunday to catch the chunnel for 3 day trip to Paris.
Cool and cloudy this afternoon, so we took the Tube to Harrod's and did a little shopping on Regent Street (Liberty of London) - main purchase was tea. Hoping the rain holds off tomorrow for Big Bus Tour to get our bearings.
Posting will be erratic, but will try to include unedited pictures of interest (quilt pics dependant on exhibit rules).
Talk to you soon.

May Day Flower Baskets
You've probably seen this stunning quilt from the Chicago Quilt Show on other blogs. I took close-ups of the baskets (two baskets per picture). I'm going to post these pictures in order (one basket set each post) starting in the upper right corner. I've seen some comments on reproducing this quilt, so I thought the basket detail might be useful. So, here's the first installment. Happy May Day!
The Lightning quilt is ready for assembly. I've hit a dilemma. I added two rows to make the quilt 82" square (as pictured below). I'm now thinking of adding only one row so lengthwise borders are symmetrical - width approximately 75". The book quilt has asymmetrical side borders - one edge pieced pyramids, one edge solid pyramids. Decisions, decisions!
